About Me:

My name is Daisy, and I am a BCom student

at the UBC Sauder School of Business. Growing up in the quiet loveliness of Vancouver Island, I'm convinced the place instilled in me an appreciation of nature, meditation, and introspective reflection. Awarded the Dr. Shelly Martin Literature Memorial Award in 2019, I have long been fascinated by the art of self-expression, particularly through the written medium, whereby a collection of words convey greater meaning that the aggregate of each piece. Although reading great poetry and fiction novels is an enjoyable pastime for me, I still have a lot to learn about the craft of writing, which I hope to explore with members of the BC Poet's Club.

PS. One of my favourite poems to read out loud is The Windhover, by Gerard Manley Hopkins

About Me:

My name is Shayan and I completed my Bachelor of Science in behavioral neuroscience at Simon Fraser University and have continued my education in neuroscience at UBC to obtain my Masters degree. I enjoy learning about the intricacies of life and asking questions about its potentials and possibilities. My goal is to understand the human body, especially the brain, and find ways to enhance quality of life and longevity through lifestyle adjustments and proactive strategies such as dietary adjustments, and exercise. In addition to sciences, I enjoy learning about other fields such as history and philosophy as well. In my free time, I take solace in activities such as practicing martial arts, poetry, listening to audiobooks, playing the piano, and cooking.

About Me:

Hello! I’m Armita, a soon-to-be second year student at UBC’s Doctor of Pharmacy program. Before coming to UBC, I completed my B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Physiology at SFU. I have a cat named Coco and love water-colour painting in my spare time. My passion for poetry started all the way back in grade 9, when my English teacher Ms. Walker recognized my aptitude for writing. She recommended that I be placed in creative writing instead of English 9, and that’s when I started writing my own poems and short stories. All throughout high school and undergrad, English was one of my favourite subjects. I always looked forward to reading and analyzing new poems.

P.S. One of my favourites? Robert Frost’s ‘Desert Places’.

About Me:

My name is Brigid and my passion is for Romantic, Victorian and Modernist poetry. I especially love the intersection between poetry, politics and fine art! I'm also a huge fan of supporting and appreciating local contemporary poets and writers. My favourite elements of poetry are the empathy for others and self-exploration and development that come with the cathartic experience of reading and writing poetry.

Growing up in Persian culture with a profound background in poetry such as Hafiz and Rumi strengthen my interest in literature and writing.
